"Waterfalls" 12' x 16' 2008
By Rebecca K.
Rebecca enjoyed drawing and painting as a child. besides a brain injury
she is visually impaired and has limited use with her hands, however,
these do not deter her. She believes that no one should give up because
of a disability. Rebecca enjoys worked in the Art Studio. She first
began creating with markers, and watercolors. More recently she has
started painting on canvass with acrylics.
Initially in the Fine Arts Program Rebecca created with markers,
watercolor and simpler materials. More recently she started painting on
canvass with acrylic paint that engaged her with heightened challenges.
She was an avid student, learning about composition, shading and
importantly, the development of a personal vision. As one who enjoys
working from a theme, this painting grew out of a Quatricentennial mural
project, honoring the Hudson River. After participating on the
collaborative mural, Rebecca chose to depict this waterfall found along
the Hudson. Blessed with a positive attitude and a willingness to
explore new avenues, she impresses herself with works of art she didn’t
think she could accomplish, pushing her further along the creative
journey.
