Doug is a stroke survivor who works through challenges with communication and physical impairments. Now forty-eight, he remembers loving art, especially drawing, as a youth. Though he had little opportunity to develop his artistic interests he was fond of racecars, drew them as a younger man and still enjoys depicting them today. The Art Studio drew Doug in like a magnet, perhaps an answer
to his pursuit of a new purpose. In this environment he feels safe to
explore his art more fully, thriving on the professional guidance. His
initial work was very meticulous, extremely tiny and typically made with
drawing media. Gradually he learned to use his whole paper more
effectively in service of an idea. In this example Doug explored his
deeper spiritual layers as he slowly learned to work with watercolor and
to complete a highly personal work. Through this exploration he found
his voice and created a work which marks a great step forward in his
life as an artist.
